Each placement is for one young person only – unless there is a specific request for a sibling placement – and all the properties are designed to provide a homely, domestic and non institutional environment.
Young people are encouraged to participate in all aspects of their placement from preparing meals to planning activities.
We provide short term placements (usually 28 days) for young people referred by local authorities. Young people are referred for a variety of reasons and each has his/her own individual needs. Team members, activities and locations are matched to the needs of the individual and care plans are drawn up in consultation with the young person, the social work department and any significant others.
Contact can be facilitated either at the young person’s home or at one of our locations. If appropriate, family members can be accommodated overnight for extended and supervised contact. Social workers, children’s rights officers and other professionals are also welcome to stay over when visiting the young person.
Regular contact is maintained with the young person’s social worker, weekly reports are provided as well as reports for Children’s Hearings, LAAC reviews or other professional meetings.
The service is based in our Grantown on Spey office. Young people are accommodated in houses and cottages situated within the Cairngorm National Park. A number of locations are available and each one is carefully matched to the needs of the young person
All of our properties are situated in rural locations, making it easier for young people to keep free of alcohol, drugs and peer pressures. However it is also important to have access to towns and public transport to enable family and social work contact to take place.
